WINERY HISTORY
The current chateau was built in the 17th century with a singular wall to surround the single vineyard. The “Clos d’Issan” built in 1644 represents 30 hectares of vines out of 45 hectares in total. The planted grape varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Château d'Issan also represents a long family heritage and continued evolution. Since 2013, the Cruse family, who acquired the estate in 1945, have been sharing this adventure with the Lorenzetti family (owner of the Châteaux Pedesclaux in Pauillac and Lilian Ladouys in St Estephe). Blason d’Issan, the second wine from the estate, was created in 1995 using mainly the younger vines, most of them from the Clos d’Issan. It always respects the identity of its terroir from Margaux.
WINE MAKING PROCESSES
To produce the Grand Vin from Château d’Issan, we are using the old vines from the Clos. The terroir is mainly composed of gravels on the surface and clay in the deep subsoil. It offers a beautiful maturity and an optimal freshness from our 2 different grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. An authentic Margaux wine, it always expresses its finesse, complexity, precision of tannins and a unique longevity.
Blason d’Issan is aged in French oak barrels for 14 to 16 months, including 35% of brand-new oak.
